One more wake-up...and some Momma dreams

One more wake-up that is until the ROYAL WEDDING! A blue blood nuptial is on the horizon. Are ya'll as excited as me? I'm having a little watch party. I am chilling the bubbly, spot cleaning the china, placing the flowers and plotting my table scape. Is it because it's a fairy tale wedding? Or is it because Wills and Kate are roughly my age? I'm not sure, but I'm totally into this. Probably a little too much. Julia is about the age I was when Diana and Charles married in 1981. I can remember my mom and aunt talking about waking up in the middle of the night to watch it. It was kind of a big deal and still is. No? And yes, I'm aware that this is a lot of money to spend on a wedding. I am also aware that there are a lot of people without a job and this is a bit lavish. But try, do try and have a little fun. Take one day to dream like a princess!

In the car yesterday I was daydreaming of Kate and what all she has on her mind. I wonder what she feels like today? Nervous? Cold feet? Excited beyond belief? And then the classic Paul Simon song, "Love Me Like a Rock" played. These lyrics made me think of Kate's mom.
My mama loves me
She loves me
She gets down on her knees and hugs me
And she loves me like a rock
She rocks me like the rock of ages
And she loves me
She loves me, loves me, loves me, loves me

Said quite perfectly, I would say.

So...what do you think Mrs. Middleton is thinking today?
As any mom, I'm sure Kate's mother only dreamed about all the wonderful things she wanted for her daughter. But do you think Mrs. Middleton ever thought her daughter would marry a prince? I think if she did that would have been a bit presumptuous, right? Whatever she is feeling today, I hope she enjoys this magical moment in life. She obviously raised a confident, beautiful, tasteful woman. She deserves to enjoy some of the fairy dust too.

And in speaking of the prayers, wishes and dreams for your kids, have you all read the Tina Fey book, Bossypants? I have not, but I've read this excerpt several times. I just love it.

“First, Lord: No tattoos. May neither Chinese symbol for truth nor Winnie-the-Pooh holding the FSU logo stain her tender haunches.

May she be Beautiful but not Damaged, for it’s the Damage that draws the creepy soccer coach’s eye, not the Beauty.

When the Crystal Meth is offered, may she remember the parents who cut her grapes in half And stick with Beer.

Guide her, protect her when crossing the street, stepping onto boats, swimming in the ocean, swimming in pools, walking near pools, standing on the subway platform, crossing 86th Street, stepping off of boats, using mall restrooms, getting on and off escalators, driving on country roads while arguing, leaning on large windows, walking in parking lots, riding Ferris wheels, roller-coasters, log flumes, or anything called “Hell Drop,” “Tower of Torture,” or “The Death Spiral Rock ‘N Zero G Roll featuring Aerosmith,” and standing on any kind of balcony ever, anywhere, at any age.

Lead her away from Acting but not all the way to Finance. Something where she can make her own hours but still feel intellectually fulfilled and get outside sometimes And not have to wear high heels. What would that be, Lord? Architecture? Midwifery? Golf course design? I’m asking You, because if I knew, I’d be doing it, Youdammit.

May she play the Drums to the fiery rhythm of her Own Heart with the sinewy strength of her Own Arms, so she need Not Lie With Drummers.

Grant her a Rough Patch from twelve to seventeen.Let her draw horses and be interested in Barbies for much too long, For childhood is short – a Tiger Flower blooming Magenta for one day – And adulthood is long and dry-humping in cars will wait.

O Lord, break the Internet forever, that she may be spared the misspelled invective of her peers And the online marketing campaign for Rape Hostel V: Girls Just Wanna Get Stabbed.

And when she one day turns on me and calls me a Bitch in front of Hollister, Give me the strength, Lord, to yank her directly into a cab in front of her friends, For I will not have that Shit. I will not have it.

And should she choose to be a Mother one day, be my eyes, Lord, that I may see her, lying on a blanket on the floor at 4:50 A.M., all-at-once exhausted, bored, and in love with the little creature whose poop is leaking up its back. “My mother did this for me once,”she will realize as she cleans feces off her baby’s neck. “My mother did this for me.” And the delayed gratitude will wash over her as it does each generation and she will make a Mental Note to call me. And she will forget. But I’ll know, because I peeped it with Your God eyes.

Amen.”

-Tina Fey

I'm certain to be back with a re-cap. Enjoy your scones and dress sighting tomorrow. Hope it's fabulous!

BLUEBONNETS

Here in Texas there is a beautiful sight in the spring...fields of bluebonnets. It's our great state's flower. My husband is a New Mexican...he didn't really get it at first. But after this photo session I think he was sold. I can't resist sharing.

Sometimes...it's just not fair.

While I was pregnant I really started blog stalking. I had dabbled before, but with the elimination of happy hours and such, it left me with time to truly study other's lives, design, families and all in between. One of my all time favorites is Bailey from Peppermint Bliss. She has impeccable, cool, eclectic style. She's also young and from Texas, which happen to be a big bonus. As I began to read her blog I just knew we could be besties. We've never spoken. We don't know each other but if we did, I know it would be a match. She and her darling husband, Pete, found out they are expecting a little girl later this summer. And more recently, have hit a road block with the health of their little precious. Read more here, but just pray for their little tot, Bailey and da (as we lovingly call Dad around here). My heart is heavy for them and specifically, the wonderful woman carrying this child, Bailey. She just wishes and prays for a healthy, happy love muffin. I know she will soon have that and they will be stronger and better parents because of this lesson in life.

I am thankful that Bailey has been vulnerable and opened herself up to the blogging world in sharing her story. I am certain it is helping other moms out there get from day to day. There was absolutely clarity for me today.

I am thankful for this doodle.

I also promised some girlfriends I'd share this Mom Prayer:

O Lord,
I need your help today.
I want to care for those you've sent into my life, to help them develop the special gifts you've given them. But I also want to free them to follow their own paths and to bring their loving wisdom to the world.
Help me to embrace them without clutching, to support them without suffocating, to correct them without crushing.
And help me to live joyfully and playfully, myself, so they can see your life in me and find their way to you. Amen.

Friends and Soaps a no-go?

Happy Saturday! Isn't it such a great day of the week? We're total tools around here these days, and we sing a song about everything. Bath time. Night time. Bed time. Lunch time. Making bottle time. Washing bottle time. I'm not sure if it keeps the babes going or us going. Debatable. Nevertheless, we have now moved into singing about Saturdays. In general, they're great. Song-worthy.

I was just doing some blog trolling when I came across this quote.

I think if I’ve learned anything about friendship, it’s to hang in, stay connected, fight for them, and let them fight for you. Don’t walk away, don’t be distracted, don’t be too busy or tired, don’t take them for granted. Friends are part of the glue that holds life and faith together. Powerful stuff.

-Jon Katz

That is filled with some good stuff, isn't it? I could write a term-paper about how important I think friends are in life. I will save you that read. Take from it what you will.

This doodle turned 7 months old this week. And loves to eat. EVERYTHING. It's scary. Scary but not surprising. She comes from a family that loves food, so her Mimi reminds us. Can you resist those eyes? And don't you just want to reach through the computer and kiss those cheeks? I know. You're jealous. Sorry about that.

Can ya'll believe this shiz? One Life to Live and All My Children cancelled? Whaaa? They've been on the air since the beginning of time. Seriously. Susan Lucci has to be like 105, but she has GOT to have a damn good plastic surgeon man on serious retainer because she still lookin the exact sammmmme.
Anyhow, this morning as I was singing zip-a-dee-doo-dah because it was Saturday I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw this crazy talk on the Today Show. I can't believe people aren't rioting in the streets. This is big news. Soaps no more? Nuts.

I got some new treasures. I'll show you soon. I went to another planet. This place had chickens, puppies, turkey legs, lots of bedazzle-ment, geraniums, toothless men and lots of good treasures. It made my heart sing, my face glow and my palms a little sweaty as we pulled in the parking lot. This was so up my alley. $21 later and 4 little tchotchkes in, I was fulfilled. I call that a successful shopping trip. Some like Prada. I love other people's old junk in attempt to re-vive it and make it look cool again.

Ohhhh and I almost forgot to tell you....JULIA'S BATHROOM IS FINALLY FINISHED! (the major clue is in the color of that statement.)
Finito. Done deal. Too tired to take pictures, but I will. You'll most def wanna come over and drink lots of beers on my patio and use that loo. It's full of happiness and little happies. Here's a tiny sneakity peek. It's a print I brought back from the Singapore Art Museum.

Have a happy weekend!

Mexico.

Don't worry, my mom reminds me when I haven't posted in DAYS. Or in some cases, weeks. I'm terrible. Take me off your scroll bars, readers, etc. I'm learning to live like my husband, which is by the seat of my pants and when and if sh*t gets done, it gets done. If not, sorry about that.

So...that to say...I got the major whisk off to Mexico for my 30th birthday. In self preservation, I will say, I had a helluva party for Clint's 30th and there was not a soul there that didn't need a week off from life to recover. I sit pretty being the younger of this couple. I go big and he has to go bigger. I think I planned this juuuuust right.

It so happened that some of our besties (Jennie and Charles) were leaving for Mexico on my birthday and staying the weekend, so we (Clint-ton as Jen calls him) quickly jumped on board. See, we got married two days after my 24th birthday (gasp, I know, I was a baby). So, this was the first year it all fell the exact same. Weird I've been married that long, but go with me. It was the perfect time to take off. Leave the babes with Mimi and celebrate 30 wonderful years of life and 6 fabulous, not-a-single-argument-only porn-star-sex-years-of-marriage. Truth be told (as in the previous statement is a bit of a stretch), the mister has been around for a lot, and I couldn't be more appreciative of him making this weekend a special, special trip. Although, he did remind me that HE needed a break from this crazy, hectic life we got cookin too! BUT, he worked very hard and did a lot of juggling to make the plans come into play. So, a BIG, GRACIOUS, LOVE FILLED THANK YOU goes to the husband along with Mimi, Aunty Heather, Pops and Aunt Alli for taking extra special care of one little girl that likes her routine and her mom and dad. We can never re-pay you. Call me when you need to dump off your tykes. I'm a damn good caregiver. Just don't use the below pictures as my background check.

So, I'll quit talking and let you take a looksie into the fun we did, indeed, have.

Terminal D at DFW Aeropuerto - word. 10am wine, it must be my birthday AND vacation. Double whammy. We're on our way Mexico, are you ready?

This is the latest Grey Goose ad. I would like adopt it, and very fitting that it's an alcohol ad...I might add. I toast to EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of those. And those of you that fit the bill, you know who you are.

This is the island, fun, let it ride, "not my problem" Clint. And he's just gettin warmed up.

This is what happens on a short, 2-hour, 6 minute flight. Danger, danger.

And it's onto the sweet Navi ride to the resort. Welcome to paradise.

No, we have not been drinking. AT ALL. It was mommas-let-loose-day. Look out.

Two beauties of the world. Colbeer and buganvilla.

A room with a view.

30 makes me sleepy. Or day drinking. Whichever.

This is a perfect, afternoon wake-up call.

Pool. My perch for 4 days.

The mister getting a little pool-side ma-ssssage.

We had a massage in there. Pure. Delight.

There's not a lot better. Anywhere.

This is Pancho. The b*tch that took a big, fat bite out of Jennie's hand. BAD PANCHO.

Clint's an angry elf because they made him change from his shorts. Pretty sure we drove off a family next to us this night. Opps.

Hey sunburn. I love that Jennie looks like she has on a Chiang Mai print dress on and we're under a dragon. Very, very appropriate. And I can assure you....that was NOT planned.

Champagne. Jes.

Jes. Again.

These two hosers are attempting to get a glimpse at the nude resort. Too bad all we could see was naked men's bum.

Sunset cruise.

Toasty. Double time.

Something about Mexican beer in a pool with a bestie you've had since you were 5 is just so good. So good.

I just realized this is a different day. Different shades, a different suit and different drinks. And I look naked.

Anniversary dinner. Cheers to 6, great years! Are ya'll jealous that I only sunburn and if that's not bad enough, I only sunburn in a horrible pattern?? I didn't think so.

Thank you, sweets, for a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful, much needed get-a-way. I hope we can always take the time to "date".

This was our BFF, Miguel. He was the best thing to ever happen. He wanted a picture with shorty (Clint-ton) and Mr. Tall (Carlito). I just wanted to put him in my pocket and bring him home.

Cheers!

Ahhhh. I missed that view on Tuesday morning.

Last time for our toes in the sand.

Bye, Bye Mexico. It was real. And we'll be back. For damn sure.
