Finito!

The nursery is finally complete!

In its former life, this room was a guest bedroom. It's seen a lot. Lots of guest have rested in this bed and lots of snuggly singles have not rested in this bed. The Chief's clothes have resided in this closet, and I used to beautify each day at the dressing table in this room. All the filth, hairspray and dry-cleaning bags have been scrubbed and put away and the room is sweet and fresh for a precious little one.

Take a look...

BEFORE:

Please pardon the pile under the window that started mounting before the transformation.

AFTER:

I decided I wanted this room to be very fresh feeling, so I went with a very light cream on the walls. It's a custom mixture based on what I thought I wanted from Pottery Barn and white.

I hope the Green Trellis makes Julia as happy as it does me!

Did you notice the picture above the crib is the same from before? That belonged to my grandmother and has a date on the bottom of 1898 from the New York Art Exchange. I think that's special. I (Clint) painted up the frame to give it a new look!

This was the last little piece to the nursery and has turned into one my favorites.

If I had an unlimited budget I would have recovered this super comfy glider in a gray linen. We worked with the color, and I think it came out just fine.

I copied this bird mobile from Erika over at Urban Grace. It's from Sundance and one of the very first purchases I made when I found out I was pregnant.

This view of the nursery makes me happy. Light, bright, fresh and white. The little linen dress on the left was purchased in Houston at a shop in Rice Village. It's quite darling and so French...I love it! The middle outfit with Julia's monogram in kelly green is from Miss Jana. She knew that would be a perfect fit! The sack on the far right is Julia's baptism gown. It's so lovely.

The yellow, French hat rack was purchased in Warrenton, if you recall from an old post. I spied it and knew I had to have it.

What little girl doesn't need a Parisian covered changing pad?!

The green lamp and gold TOMS. Yes.

As I mentioned before, this is my rocking chair from my room as a little girl. Miss Jennie re-did the chair and stool for me to use in the nursery. I couldn't love it any more!

This chest holds a lot of treasures I have collected over the years. I know, I know, as soon as she starts moving this is going to be a disaster...but I will deal with that then. For now, it's a trip down memory lane that I love gazing at each day.

The owl found a home! He has no special meaning, he's just cute!
Do you not love those precious Moroccan shoes? I can hardly wait to get her little feet in those!
And do you spy my nephew sleeping on my brother's shoulder? Nothing more precious...

Building blocks in Spanish and English. The picture of the butterfly showing "Mariposa" is my favorite.

My bug!! This picture is special because 1. I bought him this outfit. 2. He is dressed as a mini-me of my brother and 3. My dad was the king of a blue pin-point button down. With that red hair it just seals the deal. I love this picture.

My Beatrix Potter Collection. My parents bought this for me in London, and I treasure each piece.

My Aunt Becky bought me these Disney books, and I somehow kept up with them all these years. I added glammed up gold, flower bookends. So girlie!

I ordered this chocolate chevron tray in hopes it would work on her little side-table, but it's too large. Cute in the chest, nonetheless.

And the chandelier. Love, love, love the chandelier.

Thanks for continuing to read the sagas on fabrics, ideas, favorite pieces and all the in-between. It has been such a fun and special process putting all of this together for my child. I know she probably won't remember this room, but maybe she'll appreciate the pictures one day!

Guess this makes us "ready"!

Bedding Fit for a Princess

The bedding is complete! I am in love. More in love than I thought. It turned out exactly as crisp and happy has I had hoped.

Please forgive. I haven't washed the sheet yet. I thought you could look past its wrinkles and see the bedding for all its glory.

Who did the bedding? Miracle worker, Lesley. She's a superstar. She's so talented, so sweet and so wonderful to work with. She will do exactly what you ask or when you get down to the end and you say "Les, here is the leftover fabric, make me something wonderful." She will. And you'll love it more than you thought. Like the Imperial Trellis pillow. I. LOVE. IT. Happy to share her. Let me know if you need a wonderful seamstress in Dallas.

I wanted the skirt to kiss the floor. I had originally gone with a different crib. I had Lesley make the skirt based on those measurements. Then I changed my mind on the crib. Yes, my husband has gritted his teeth at me on several occasions. So then the skirt was too short. Again, the chief saw no problem, but I insisted it needed to be fixed. He now agrees it's better. So above said miracle worker fixed me up. She added the stripe and velcroed it to the bottom. I actually love it more now than I did before! And, now the stripe can just be removed when it's time to lower the mattress. Genius!

Buenos Noches pillow is from Dallas Flea. Contact me for ordering information. The lady has several Spanish phrases.

**Zero natural light. All pictures with a flash. A little "tart", but it's close to the real deal.

What do you think? Did I spend more time agonizing over this bedding and nursery than most? I really wish I didn't care so much and bought a bed in a bag and said done. Really, this would be a lot easier on everyone. But now that it's complete and my hours of laying awake at night have paid off, I'm thrilled. No need to tell me how crazy I am. I know.

We're off to meet our newest nephew tomorrow! Pretty excited to see what Bryer Hoyt Parker is all about.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Teaser!

Happy July 5th! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday weekend.
This household has battled a little bit of illness and a lot of rain. In the meantime, we did manage some major errand running and made lots of progress on the little one's room. Take a sneak peek...we're almost there!!

There's the infamous green lamp. I think my mom bought that at Sanger Harris a million years ago. It was in my room as a tot and has since moved to college, Jona Kay (my brother and sister-in-law's home in Norman), sat in storage and finally made its way back to life. That lamp just makes me happy. I can't explain it.

Off to bake a cake for some family fun this afternoon. Hopefully today brings you all sunshine and one more day of relaxation.

My apologies for the phone picture. I promise to do much better when it's all finished up!

I don't want to show ya, but I gotta show ya

Hello lovies-
Get your coffee ready, this is a long post. And it's a post entirely about the nursery. I'm sorry, it's just all consuming these days.

I apologize for my long delay. It's been quite a week and it was rounded off with a horrible viral infection/cold/severe allergies/pain in my a*s. Of course this all happens while Clint's enjoying himself on a guys' trip to Vegas and our house needs to be shown. Which, at this point, is likely a waste of time so cleaning it and having it look like it's about to walk out on a first date is a total waste of time. Friday night as I scrubbed toilets, blew my nose and cleaned out the fridge Clint called to tell me about his afternoon by the pool. I just about came unglued. Okay, moving on!

I picked myself up and went out for a little shopping on Saturday afternoon. Jana and I took an excursion to our favorite antique shop, and we hit jackpot. Yahtzee!
Check out this little delight for Julia's room. Jana and I spied this chandelier right as we walked in.
MUST. HAVE. THAT.

And here's the final verdict on crib fabric. Of course, there is another story to go along with it. About a week ago, I was more or less fired by the girl I had hired to help me put it all together. {Seems odd that I HIRED her and she kinda FIRED me, but whatevs.} She was about as useless as my husband in helping me. So really, the split was mutual. Still bugged that she bailed. But, I have found a dream come true in the world of sewing. If you live in Dallas and need curtains, bedding, pillows, shower curtains, sink skirts, skirts for roundtables, etc., etc. please let me know. I found a peach, Lesley, and she is FANTASTIC. She's a mom of two, a pre-school teacher and just a delight to be around. Oh and did I mention she is saving me about half of the cost? Can't beat it!

Here's what we're doing.

This Imperial Trellis (that I literally want to cuddle with every time I look at) is going to be the inside of the bumper. I know, I should use it on the outside, but I want to be able to see it in all its glory. Plus, the geometric pattern might allow Julia to increase to genius status with all the stimulation. Okay, probably not, but I can dream!
The white Minkee Dot is going to be the outside of the bumper. Again, I know it should be on the inside, but get with my visual and you'll be on board.
This pink and white will be a bias-cut (I just learned this fancy sewing term). This will be used as the ruffle along the top of the bumper and for the BOWS on the bumper. I must admit, I'm pretty excited to have BIG BOWS on the bumper.
This is almost a big, abstract paisley. It will be the gathered skirt.
What do you think? Are you laughing that I almost went neutral and didn't find out the sex? It is rather funny...now it's turned into flower chandeliers, pink bows and ALL GIRL. It's okay, I'm laughing too.

Here's the last little treasure I will show you from the shopping trip. Isn't he cute? Isn't he even cuter under the new dome? I can't wait for it to all come together!

Sorry for the long, drawn-out episode. And the fact that it's another post entirely about the nursery. It's 7:30 am and I'm awake while the rest of my crew is tightly tucked into bed. I'm cozied up with my Pandora, my chandelier dimly lit and a candle beside me, which entails a long post. Enjoy your Sunday and get to shoppin for your momma. You got a week!
